As a Nigerian who believes deeply in the boundless potential of our people, I am convinced that the future of our nation lies in the hands of our youth, not merely as dreamers, but as doers. The urgency before us is clear: we must empower young Nigerians, particularly through technology, to take charge of their destiny and, in doing so, reshape the future of our nation.
We are living in a digital era where innovation determines influence, and where knowledge, not natural resources, dictates national progress. And now most of what a country is exporting isn’t only what gives, it is power and rank in the world but also how technological advanced they are although Nigeria is a developing country, the government still need to do more and empower the youth in technological aspect, we need to build thing that put us on the same scale as other powerful economical countries and make good use of our resource and empowering our youth in this fields because not only will it help us grow as a country but it also going to put us on the scale of respect and give our passport more rank.
Why Technology Must Be at the Center
Technology has become the global currency of development. Nations that embrace it are advancing rapidly, while those that ignore it fall behind. For Nigeria, the path forward must be led by a tech-savvy generation equipped with the right tools, opportunities, and support systems to thrive locally and compete globally.
From Lagos to Abuja, and all over Nigeria, young Nigerians are already doing extraordinary things, building apps, launching startups, and solving real problems. But imagine what more they could achieve with a system designed to support their growth
Four Key Actions to Drive Youth Empowerment Through Technology
1. Expand Access to Digital Education
If we are serious about empowering the next generation, we must start by making tech education widely available and inclusive. Every young Nigerian, regardless of background or location, deserves access to training in coding, design, data science, AI, and other emerging fields.
Government and private sector partnerships must work together to:
2. Foster Mentorship and Peer Networks
Empowerment is not just about skills, it’s also about guidance. We need more structured mentorship programs that connect aspiring youth with experienced professionals. At the same time, we must nurture peer-to-peer learning communities where ideas can be shared, refined, and brought to life collaboratively.
Let us build ecosystems of support where the success of one becomes the inspiration of many.
3. Provide Funding and Startup Support
Far too often, young people with brilliant ideas are held back by a lack of funding. We must create mechanisms for innovation grants, seed funds, and microloans that enable young tech entrepreneurs to launch and scale their businesses.
Let’s also foster relationships with local and international investors who believe in the Nigerian dream and are ready to invest in its potential.
4. Integrate Youth into Governance and Nation-Building
If we’re going to empower youth meaningfully, we must also give them a seat at the table, not just as beneficiaries of policy, but as co-creators. Youth voices should shape the digital transformation of Nigeria, from e-governance and cybersecurity to infrastructure and fintech. A digitally empowered generation can drive transparency, foster accountability, and boost economic growth.
This, in turn, will elevate Nigeria’s global standing, including the value of our passport and the perception of our people.
Redefining Nigeria on the World Stage
There is a powerful narrative waiting to be told one of a Nigeria that is not defined by its challenges, but by the creativity, resilience, and brilliance of its youth.
We have all the ingredients. What we need now is coordinated action from leaders, institutions, private sector players, and most importantly, young Nigerians. This is a call to action to empower the youth so they, in turn, can empower others.
That’s how we build momentum, legacy, and a New Nigeria. Let us rise above the noise, focus on solutions, and take ownership of our future, with technology as the bridge and empowerment as the mission.
The time is now. And the responsibility is ours.
