Weathering is One of the Biggest Challenges I Face in my journey

One of the most unpredictable and frustrating challenges any tourist can face is the weather.

No matter how much planning goes into a trip, nature often has the final say. Just a few days ago, my team and I set out to visit Makoko, widely known as the largest slum in Africa, nestled on the lagoon waters of Lagos, Nigeria.

My goal was to capture compelling content and share the stories of the vibrant community that lives there. We had spent days meticulously planning the trip, preparing our gear, and even buying gifts for the children we hoped to meet. Everything was set. However, halfway through our journey, the skies opened up. Rain poured down in torrents, relentless and unyielding.

Our hopes were drowned in that downpour. Despite all our preparation, investment, and excitement, we were forced to turn back; we couldn’t go any further.

Experiences like this serve as a stark reminder of the many hurdles that come with this path erratic weather conditions, complicated logistics, rising expenses, and even the challenges of traveling with a Nigerian passport. It’s never a straightforward road.

But while the obstacles can be overwhelming, they also fuel my passion. These setbacks remind me why I do what I do: to tell the stories that matter, to explore places many overlook, and to share raw, real moments with the world. The journey may be tough, but the mission is worth every drop of rain.
